The shore where Aeneas landed to speak with the Sybil, and where he buried lifeless body of Misenum, his bugler who dared to challenge Triton, marine divinity and son of Poseidon, god of the sea.
Cape Miseno is one of the most ancient volcanos in the Phlegraean Fields, sided by the namesake lake, actually a salted lagoon.
Despite of the strong urbanization, the Miseno area preserves a lot of seminatural environments mixed with history.
The itinerary consist in a visit to a lake separated from the sea by a strip of seashore; than climb up a hill through a traditional village and an oakes’ wood right to the top, where it is possible to enjoy the Phlegraean gulf, that dominates the Mediterranean forest area. At the end, it is possible to admire also historical traces of the Roman Empire, thanks to the “Augustales’ Sacellum”.
