Gauro Mount is the second crater in terms of size ad height in the Phlegraean Fields, and it is a remaining of a huge volcano born 10.000 years ago. The complex consist of three peaks: Barbaro, Sant’Angelo and Corvara Mounts. Two of them hosts churches: Salvatore church, now reduced to a ruin, and Sant’Angelo church. In the bottom of the crater there’s a leisure complex of the USA army, while the slopes are covered by a dense mesofile chestnuts’ wood that, by climbing, evolves into a Mediterranean vegetation. Since the ancient times the area is place of legends, from a subterranean civilitazion living there up to the myth of The Holy Grail.
